Virginia State police continue to ask for the public’s help in identifying two vehicles that struck a 73-year-old pedestrian in Fauquier County. And Fairfax County police have charged a driver in a pedestrian fatality and say another woman died in a separate weekend crash. Both of those crashes occurred at Oakton Shopping Center.
The Fauquier hit-and-run happened at 5:47 p.m. Friday on Elk Run Road at Flippo Lane.
Garland J. Heddings, 73, of Catlett, was walking eastbound on Elk Run Road when a northbound vehicle struck him. Police said he was then struck again by a southbound vehicle. He died at the scene.
Virginia State Police believe the initial vehicle that struck Heddings was a silver 2001–2003 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, similar to the one pictured above. The police said the truck would have front-end and driver-side damage. The other vehicle may have front-end damage.

Fairfax Pedestrian Fatality Update
In a separate pedestrian fatality, Fairfax County police said they charged Walter Bozarth, 72, of Maryland, with failure to yield to a pedestrian in an Oakton crash that killed Choon Kook, 80, of Vienna.
Police said Kook was in a crosswalk at Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place when Bozarth, driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck, attempted to make a left turn into Oakton Shopping Center from westbound Hunter Mill Road when the crash happened at 8:42 a.m. on September 21.
Another Fatal Crash at Oakton Shopping Center
In another weekend crash that occurred at Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place in Oakton, Brenda Cratty, 77, of Vienna, died Saturday.
Fairfax County police said she was a passenger in a 2001 Acura coupe whose driver was trying to turn left into Oakton Shopping Center. The driver of a northbound 2024 Toyota Camry struck the Acura in the intersection.
Cratty was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Acura driver also went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the Camry’s driver and passenger were not injured.
Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash that occurred at 11:20 a.m., police said.
