A whimsical walkthrough event returns to Tysons. Starting on Halloween and running through January 12, 2025, the Winter Lantern Festival is back, showcasing more than 1,000 handmade Chinese lanterns.
Each lantern features hand-painted silk cloth over an LED-light-filled frame. Chinese myths, legends, and zodiacs inspire this Instagram-worthy display that runs Thursdays through Sundays at Tysons Corner.
You can walk through from 5 to 9 p.m., but you need to be there by 8:30 p.m. to enter.
The Winter Lantern Festival is more than just lanterns. It’s also your opportunity to see the Zigong Acrobatic Troupe perform.
The kids can have a blast at the bounce house or on the dino ride, interactive light swings, and see-saws. There are tunnels to check out and sugar paintings to see. And, of course, you’ll be able to get something to nosh, as well as gifts.
It will take you about 45 minutes to take in everything, and this Chinese cultural experience that’s known to sell out is a rain-or-shine event, so check the forecast and be prepared.
Last year’s event at Tysons took place from late November until February.
This year, similar festivals will happen in New York, Atlanta, Connecticut, Florida, and Illinois.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with our artists again and again to celebrate culture, family, and the holidays, and we look forward to an even bigger and better 2024,” said Xiao Tian Falig, chief executive officer of the Winter Lantern Festival.
If you buy tickets online, it’s $16.99 for children, $21.99 for seniors, and $26.99 for adults. At the door, tickets are $20 for kids and $30 for adults.
