Dog Survives Haymarket House Explosion

Some “good old coaxing” brought Brandy out of the rubble once firefighters shored up the collapsed area.

Call it an amazing story of survival. A dog is found in the rubble of a Haymarket house explosion, six days after the gas explosion.

The dog named Brandy was heard barking in the rubble, and firefighters were called back to the scene Monday morning.

“Truck4 worked diligently to free the pup from the collapsed home, reuniting her with her family,” Prince William Professional Firefighters Local 2598 wrote on its Facebook page.

“Firefighters were able to free the animal after about 20 minutes of deploying structure collapse stabilization shoring techniques and some good old coaxing by the home’s owner,” said a post on Prince William County Fire & Rescue System’s Facebook page.

“She appeared to be in good shape and showed her happiness of being freed by rapid tail wagging.”

Firefighters said the dog is expected to make a full recovery.

The explosion in the 5900 block of Coby Hunt Court destroyed the single-family home where two families lived. It was thought the dog and two cats died in the Haymarket house explosion.
