A gas explosion destroyed a single-family Haymarket home where six people lived on Tuesday afternoon.
The four adults and two children safely evacuated the house in the 5900 block of Coby Hunt Court before the explosion, but three pets died in the blast. The Red Cross is helping the two unrelated families who lived there.
The Prince William County fire marshal is on the scene Wednesday investigating the explosion.

“Initial reports are an underground contractor struck a natural gas line. It is unknown at this time what lead to the explosion,” the fire department said.
The fire department arrived on the scene at 4:17 p.m. for the reported gas leak, and the gas company was called to the area to secure the leak.
The explosion occurred at 5:36 p.m., destroying the home. Flying debris damaged several vehicles, the fire department said in a Facebook post.
No one was hurt in the blast.
Eight houses nearby will have their natural gas service disrupted for up to two days, the fire department said, but families who live in those homes managed to return to them Tuesday night.
