Chantilly has been ranked third in the nation on Fortune’s list of the Best Places to Live for Families, behind No. 1 Silver Spring, Maryland, and No. 2 Upper Merion, Pennsylvania.
In its analysis, Fortune looked at 200 data categories across five themes (education, resources for aging adults, general wellness, financial health, and livability) for 2,000 cities to come up with its 50 best places where “multigenerational families can thrive.”
“As a growing number of people find themselves in the sandwich generation — squeezed between caring for kids and aging parents — they are increasingly looking for communities that support the needs of caregivers and multigenerational families,” said Jennifer Fields, Fortune Well editor. “In our research, the cities that rose to the top were those that had a range of resources and amenities that appeal to their oldest and youngest residents.”
Chantilly scored an 83 out of 100 for community well-being and a 67 for financial well-being. Chantilly “has a Sharecare financial index score, which looks at managing economic life to reduce stress and increase security, of 67 out of 100—among the highest on this list,” Fortune said.
Fortune highlighted Chantilly’s proximity to Dulles International Airport, offering convenience for family vacations, and touted the nearby attractions of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, and Pleasant Valley Golf Club, along with the number of breweries in the area.
No other Virginia city landed on the list this year. Last year, Alexandria ranked 18th and Silver Spring third.
The next nearest mid-Atlantic community on the 2024 list was Middletown, Delaware.
