Former GM of Hank’s Oyster Bar Sentenced to Prison for Embezzlement Scheme

Claude Ibrahim will have pay back the $680,000 she stole.

The former general manager of Hank’s Oyster Bar in Old Town Alexandria has been sentenced to 30 months in prison and must pay back the $680,000 she embezzled from the restaurant over more than eight years.

Claude Ibrahim, 53, of Manassas, pleaded guilty last fall to nine felony embezzlement counts and eight misdemeanor charges.

“This is one of the most egregious embezzlement cases I’ve seen, both for the total amount of money that was diverted from the business, as well as the overall length of time that the scheme existed,” said Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter told WTOP.

Ibrahim set up direct deposit accounts for five fictitious Hank’s Oyster Bar employees and submitted biweekly timesheets for them. The embezzlement started in June 2014 and ended when Ibrahim was fired.

Ibrahim paid back $90,000 but still owes the restaurant $591,000.

Ibrahim also received a 12-and-a-half year sentence for each felony embezzlement count. The judge suspended those years, provided she pays back the money and has no contact with the owner, AlxNow reports.
