Arlington County police charged former Washington-Liberty High School basketball coach George Porcha with sexually based crimes involving two students.
Porcha, 53, of Winterville, North Carolina, is charged with carnal knowledge of a minor and taking indecent liberties with children.
The police said the investigation started in October 2022 and that the offenses involved two girls between 2000 and 2003 when Porcha coached the girls basketball team. At the time, the school was then known as Washington-Lee High School.
Arlington police said in a news release that investigators are looking for additional victims. Porcha coached at the high school for five years and was National District Coach of the Year in 2001, according to InsideNova. After leaving the Arlington school system, he coached at Alexandria’s only high school from 2004 to 2007 and then went on to be an assistant women’s basketball coach at Virginia Tech and an associate women’s basketball coach at West Virginia University. He also coached the boys basketball team at Woodbridge High School.
