Somebody Tell the Cherry Blossoms Winter Weather Is in the Forecast

Don’t worry. The blooms will be back in the spring.

By Colleen Kelleher January 3, 2024 at 9:04 am

The cherry blossom trees at the Washington Monument in DC and in other areas around the DMV are giving us a little taste of what spring will look like, despite the fact that wintry weather is in the forecast.

The National Park Service said the pinkish-white blossoms are “completely normal” during warm periods in the winter months.

Don’t worry about the cherry blossom trees. “They’ll bloom again in the spring. See them now on the Washington Monument grounds,” social media posts by the park service said.

The official National Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off on March 20.

The forecast for the weekend calls for a mix of rain and snow, with a high of 36 degrees.
