Merrifield-based Custom Inc. will lay off 490 workers as the company that makes custom T-shirts and promotional products closes its production facility in Texas, the Washington Business Journal reports.
While roughly 240 of the layoffs are in Dallas, 83 employees in Virginia were notified earlier this month that their jobs would be eliminated. The rest of the positions are across the country.
The Fairfax County company that was founded in 2000 is eliminating all in-house production, telling the Business Journal that it is doing so “to improve performance and better align the business with its tech-oriented growth strategy.”
Earlier this year, Custom Ink shut down its Charlottesville, Virginia, production facility and let 338 workers go. The operations were consolidated with those in Dallas that are now closing in the first quarter of 2024, the Business Journal reports.
The company, which Fortune ranked as No. 8 among the best workplaces in retail this year, will give workers severance pay of four to 26 weeks and a health care subsidy.
