Peek Inside the Hot Wheels Champion Experience Opening in Tysons

The immersive, interactive experience will bring the popular toy to life starting Friday.

Ready to jump into the world of Hot Wheels? The Hot Wheels Champion Experience, an interactive event that allows visitors to design, race, and build Hot Wheels opens its doors in Tysons Corner Center on Friday.

The experience was designed to celebrate the popular line of Mattel toys that has been “influencing car culture” for 55 years. The 16,000-square-foot space will contain several stations where visitors are encouraged to play, using a combination of immersive video projections and augmented reality systems.

“Together, we aim to bring Hot Wheels to life in an entirely new way. By combining technology, immersive design, and the unrivaled thrill of Hot Wheels, this attraction will ignite the imagination of fans and families alike,” said Julie Freeland, senior director of global location based entertainment at Mattel.

There are seven different experiences for guests to take on. They can color in a design for a custom Hot Wheel car to be projected digitally, build a custom Hot Wheels City in an interactive augmented reality room as Tracker Builders, and defeat monsters taking over Hot Wheels City by throwing balls at animated targets at the wall.

Using physical body motions, guests will be able to digitally race Hot Wheels cars against competitors, drive virtual Monster Trucks, and pose on a winner’s podium to celebrate.

Throughout the experience, visitors will use an RFID bracelet to check in to each zone so they can collect virtual badges, pictures, and videos as memorabilia from their time there. After the experience, that digital memorabilia will be emailed to them.

The experience takes an estimated 75 to 90 minutes to complete.

All ages are welcome. Tickets start at $25 for kids ages 3 to 12 and $32 for ages 13 and up.
