Plaid Friday in Alexandria Offers Deals After Thanksgiving

The discounts Alexandria businesses will offer on November 24 are worth getting up early for.

By Colleen Kelleher November 10, 2023 at 11:20 am

More than 50 businesses in Del Ray and Old Town Alexandria will take part in Alexandria’s version of Black Friday, called Plaid Friday.

Get up early and grab a cup of coffee at one of the coffee shops that will open at 6 a.m. — then start shopping.

Some of the stores open at 6 a.m. and will offer 30 percent discounts between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.

There will be 20 percent off between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. From 10 a.m. until closing, you can get 10 percent off your purchases.

For those getting ready for the holidays, you’ll have a nice selection of gift options. The participating stores range from home décor to couture handbags to gourmet foods to handcrafted items at the Torpedo Factory. In addition to boutiques that sell chic and name brand clothing, some of Alexandria’s consignment shops will offer deals.

For those looking to buy gift cards, Sugar House Day Spa and Salon will offer 10 percent off gift cards. The Tea and Spice Exchange also has free gift cards, depending on how much you spend.

The idea behind Plaid Friday, which started in Oakland, California, started as a way to weave “the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses,” said a news release from Old Town Business.

Check out the list of participating businesses and plan your route now.
