Alexandria Principal Competing to Be Mrs. America

Ingrid Bynum is on a mission to promote student literacy to a larger audience.

By Colleen Kelleher August 1, 2023 at 5:12 pm

Ingrid Bynum, principal of Alexandria’s Patrick Henry K-8 School, will compete to be Mrs. America later this month, with a goal of promoting student literacy.

Bynum won the Mrs. Virginia America Pageant, the state preliminary to the national pageant, in June.

She tells NBC4 she prepared in secret, telling only her husband.

“The hard part was going to the gym four days a week with the personal trainer since November,” she said.

At the Mrs. America competition in Las Vegas, Bynum wants to pass along her passion for student literacy. She wants children to have access to quality literacy materials

“I would like every child in Virginia, especially those who live in underserved communities, to have at least one book in their possession,” she tells NBC4.
