Sherry Ann Culp was leaving her Springfield office the night of January 16, 1998, when she was fatally shot just after getting into her teal green Honda Civic after work. The mother of two, who was two weeks away from a scheduled delivery of her third child, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where doctors delivered her baby via postmortem cesarean. The newborn, Kelsey, would survive just two days.
Several witnesses reported hearing gunshots the night of Culp’s murder. Some saw a man in a dark jumpsuit and hooded shirt running on a sidewalk near the murder scene. Others noticed a maroon pickup truck near the Newington-area parking lot, where paramedics pulled Culp from her car.
Twenty-five years later, the murders of Sherry Ann Culp and baby Kelsey remain unsolved.
Law enforcement officials, however, are still hoping for a lead. In a statement Monday, the FBI Washington Field Office announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of whoever is responsible.
“Twenty-five years have passed since Sherry and Kelsey’s senseless murders, but the FBI and our law enforcement partners continue to search for the perpetrator who tragically ended their lives,” Wayne A. Jacobs, a special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office Criminal and Cyber Division, said in the release. “We will pursue justice for Sherry and her daughters, no matter how long it takes.”
The FBI says its agents are working with the Fairfax County Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia to search for Culp’s murderer.
“Sherry’s family has waited 25 years for the justice Sherry and Kelsey deserve,” Jacobs added. “Our ask of the public is simple: If you have information, please call 1-800-CALL FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.”
