NoVA Pets of the Month: Doodle and Binx Are Ready to Find a New Home

In shelter care since early this year, these two pets are ready to settle in with a loving family.

Each month, we feature a dog and cat who are available for adoption through local animal shelters or rescue groups. October’s featured pets include Doodle the dog and Binx the cat. We are sure both are excited to meet their forever families.

Dog of the Month: Meet Doodle

Doodle, an approximately 2-year-old male Lab mix, is looking for a home to call his own. When he came to Operation Paws for Homes in January of this year, he was completely shut down and afraid of everything. He wouldn’t play with toys and was very shy about being petted. Today, he is a completely different dog. He seeks out attention from his foster mom and loves his stuffed animals. He enjoys walking in quiet, peaceful areas (who doesn’t?) and has fun playing with dog friends, too.

Doodle also loves looking out the window, watching the world go by, and adores car rides. He would do best in a relatively low-key “furever” home, and his greatest wish is for a very patient adopter. Doodle will need time to adjust and trust his new human but when he does, he promises he is definitely worth the wait. He has a wonderful personality once he starts to shine and his goofy antics come through. He would benefit from a confident dog sibling to show him around a home and help him get settled. At his foster home, he’s been a good boy in his crate, great at leash walking, and eager to meet new friends.

More information on how to adopt Doodle can be found here.

Cat of the Month: Meet Binx

Mount Purrnon Cat Café and Wine Bar in Alexandria is a home to adoptable rescue cats (and features lots of delicious food and drink items, too). Their longest resident is a handsome one-year-old named Binx. The little one was found wandering the streets of DC and has been at Mount Purrnon for almost eight months, believe it or not! Binx has a tail deformity, which makes him extra cute when he wags his little nub tail.

While he’s not a lap cat, he loves to sit against you and is very curious about what’s on TV or your laptop. He likes to be petted and will let you know when he’s finished (but never with claws!). Binx is playful, but can be dominant with other cats so he would do best in a home with another playful, but passive, young cat. He would most likely be OK with cat-friendly dogs and older children who understand Binx has limits. His adoption fee has been sponsored, so he is free to go home with an approved adopter. Best of all, he’s a tuxedo cat, so he’s already dressed fancy for his inaugural ride home.

More information on Binx can be found by visiting Mount Purrnon’s web site here.
