7 local park events to join this week

Take advantage of the warm weather and head to your local park this week for some much needed outdoor fun.

With spring making an early arrival this week, it is the perfect time to get outdoors. From volunteering at the park to creating a new floral arrangement, these seven local park events will be the perfect way to enjoy the spring temps.

Bingo Night

Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.
Get the family out of the house for a fun game night. This week’s drive-in game will be bingo. Players will stay in the car and listen for the numbers through the radio. Plus, if you win, you get to honk your horn for everyone to hear. // Dorothy Hart Community Center: 408 Canal St., Fredericksburg; $5 per player

Garlic Mustard Clean Up

Thursday, 10 a.m.-noon
Spend your Thursday morning volunteering at the park. Bring along a trash bag, gloves, and water to help clean up the park for spring time. Volunteers will need to wear a mask if social distancing cannot be kept. // Ball’s Bluff Battlefield Regional Park: Balls Bluff Road NE, Leesburg; free

Hidden in Your Backyard: History of Cain’s Branch

Thursday, 11 a.m.
Put on your hiking boots for a trek to the abandoned sites of Cain’s Branch waterway. Hidden from most visitors, this hike will take attendees to the waterway to learn about the inhabitants that made the Sully Historic Site their home. // Sully Historic Site: 3650 Historic Sully Way, Chantilly; $10

Pair With “The Players” Pro Am Tee Time Tournament

Saturday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
Dust off the golf clubs and head over to the links. Participants will draw a pro from the leaderboard, complete their 18 hole round and combine the two scores to determine the winner of each round. Prizes will be awarded. // Brambleton Golf Course: 42180 Ryan Road, Ashburn; $10

Floral Design Workshop: Swing into Spring

Saturday, 1 p.m.
Get ready for spring with a new floral arrangement for the table. Join certified floral designer Betty Ann Galway as she guides you to create the perfect spring project. A virtual workshop is also available. // Green Spring Gardens: 4603 Green Spring Road, Alexandria; $22-$39, plus $30 supply fee

Birding for Beginners

Sunday, 9 a.m.
With life coming back to the region, so are the birds which means it is the perfect time to try out bird watching. Head over to Lake Fairfax Park for some tips and discussion on identification and the different birds you can find in the area. // Lake Fairfax Park: 14-00 Lake Fairfax Drive, Reston; $12

Just Wing it!

Sunday, 11 a.m.-noon
Make your way to Mason Neck State Park for a quick lesson in butterflies and moths. Participants will learn how the insects communicate, hide, and deter predators. This program will be limited to 25 people. // Mason Neck State Park: 7301 High Point Road, Lorton; free
