6 family-friendly weekend events to help you escape the cold

From drive-in movies to a virtual paint class, stay inside and warm with the family at one of these weekend events.

Once the snow moves out and after hours of sledding, you may be thinking about staying warm this weekend. If you see indoor and drive-in activities as your go to this weekend, these six events will be perfect to keep the whole family entertained.

Campfire Night Hike – Predators at Night

Friday, 6 p.m.
Grab a flashlight and enjoy a family adventure through the woods. During your trek, hikers will learn about nocturnal hunters as they try to catch a glimpse at night. After the hike, warm up by the campfire as you enjoy some delicious smores. // Ellanor C. Lawrence Park: 5040 Walney Road, Chantilly; $8

Drive-In Movie Series

Friday, 6-8 p.m.
If you are in need of a laugh, head over to the drive-in series at Old Mill Park. This month the movie will be Jumanji: The Next Level, the most recent film in the Jumanji franchise. // Old Mill Park: 2216 Caroline St., Fredericksburg; free

Virtual Lunch For Turtles

Saturday, 1-1:30 p.m.
Schedule to eat your lunch with the turtles this weekend. The virtual program will show kids how the food is prepared at Long Branch Nature center. Then they will be able to watch them eat with a special worm treat for dessert. // free

Kiddo Elephant Hearts | Virtual ZOOM Class

Saturday, 1-3 p.m.
Break out the paint and brushes for a special arts and crafts session at home. Join your little one for a paint class to create an adorable elephant that they will love showing off in their room. // $30

Drive-In: Trolls (2016)

Saturday, 6:15-8 p.m.
Throw your own dance party in the car when you attend this drive-in showing of Trolls. While you have probably seen this movie more times than you can count, your little ones will love seeing it on the big screen. // Alamo Drafthouse: 20575 Easthampton Plaza, Ashburn; $40

Virtual Sewing For Kids: Toiletries Bag

Sunday, 2-4 p.m.
Enjoy a fun indoor activity with a sewing class on Sunday afternoon. The introductory class will teach kids the basics of sewing while creating a cute and functional bag from home. Supplies can be purchased from Sew So Fab. // $5 for supplies
