Updated January 25, 2022. If you love the great outdoors even in the winter time, consider renting a cabin at a local park in Northern Virginia, where you can curl up with a good book, take a brisk hike and enjoy a warm beverage in front of a roaring fire. Here are four parks offering year-round cabin rentals.
Algonkian Regional Park
Rent one of 12 cottages along the Potomac River at this regional park in Loudoun County, which are equipped with grills, full kitchens, decks, wifi, and multiple bedrooms. At the park you can play golf at the 18-hole course, hike the trails, or use the boat launch; nearby are wineries, breweries, TopGolf, Ball’s Bluff Battlefield, and restaurants that have expanded their outdoor dining options. Daily rates in the off-season start at $205
Bull Run Regional Park
The Centreville park has nine rustic cabins available year-round, with electricity, air conditioning and heat, and two rooms. The back room has a double bed and set of bunk beds, while the front room has a futon sofa bed, table, chairs, microwave, and mini-refrigerator. Outside you’ll find a front porch with a swing, charcoal grill, fire pit, and picnic table. Two bathhouses in the campground offer hot showers, sinks, toilets, and laundry facilities, and a camp store sells supplies, snacks, ice, and firewood. Cabin guests must bring their own bedding. Nearby is disc golf, a playground, and hiking trails. Rates start at $87/night in the off-season
Pohick Bay Regional Park
There are two options for cabins at the Lorton regional park. Deluxe cabins are fully-equipped with water, electricity, heat and air conditioning, bedroom and private bathroom, and a back porch. Each cabin also has a kitchen with cookware, utensils, dish service for six, small refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, two-burner store, and Keurig coffee maker. They sleep up to six with a full-size futon in the living area and a queen bed and twin bunks in the bedroom, and have a 32-inch flat screen TV with local channels and a Blu-Ray player in the living room. Outside is a back porch with partial views of the Potomac River, seating, picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring. Guests will need to bring their own bath and bed supplies, however. Rustic cabins have electricity, heat and air conditioning, small refrigerator, microwave, small eating area, and can sleep up to six people with a convertible full size futon, full size bed and twin bunks. Outside is a small front porch, porch swing, picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring. No cooking supplies or bed linens are provided; restrooms, shower, and laundry facilities are located less than 100 yards away at Comfort Station 1. Off-season rates for rustic cabins start at $87/night and deluxe cabins are $145
Prince William Forest National Park
Spend the night in a cabin once used for spy training by the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. The cabins were built in the 1930s and have been restored to come equipped with cots, a ceiling fan, and electricity. Please note that while historical and unique, these cabins do not have heat and heaters are prohibited. Cabins start at $50/night
