With the NHL back in full swing, the Washington Capitals are trying to recreate the usual gameday experience virtually. The team has partnered with Kiswe, a tech company that live streams sports, to launch Virtual Gameday presented by NBC Sports Washington for a special viewing for all Capitals home games.
This new program is a second screen experience that allows fans to watch the pregame activities and connect to each other while watching the game. Activities also include a recorded National Anthem performance by singers M.Sgt. Caleb Green (Ret.) and Sgt. Major Bob McDonald, pregame player warm-ups, in-game entertainment and the chance to win a Fanatics Capitals Reverse Retro jersey.
“Nothing will replace the excitement of having our great fans at Capital One Arena, but the Capitals are thrilled to partner with Kiswe to convey the amazing arena atmosphere to fans at home,” said Hunter Lochmann, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer, in a recent press release. “Capitals Virtual Gameday is an incredible second screen experience that offers our fans both familiar and new interactive elements while also allowing the organization to engage with corporate partners in an innovative digital format. Combined with game broadcasts on NBC Sports Washington, Capitals fans can look forward to experiencing home games in a unique, interactive format through the Virtual Gameday environment.”
Fans can also enjoy the second screen activities during Washington Wizards home games, which was the first Monumental Sports team to implement the interactive technology. The team says it will continue to add elements to the second screen experience throughout the season.
