Trying to Relax
For years, I lived next door to the Houston Zen Center, where I’d pop in occasionally for a guided meditation. I think we could all use a little serenity right now, so I’m going to find my new Zen with a virtual visit to the Mindfulness Practice Center of Fairfax. The 7 a.m. sessions are a perfect way to prepare me for a potentially stressful workday ahead. – Alice Levitt, food editor/critic
R&R
After a busy week, I’m ready to settle down for some relaxation. And for me, there is no better way to do that than to go outside. Growing up in rural Maryland, I always loved to go outside and just soak in the sounds and sights of my surroundings. So to start off my week, I’m going to head to Great Fall Park for the National Park Service’s first fee-free day of the year. The sounds of the rushing water and bird chirps are sure to put me in the right mindset for the rest of the week. – Michele Kettner, associate digital & research editor
From House to Home
We moved into a new home nearly two years ago now, but between work and the pandemic and life in general, I haven’t been able to do nearly as much decorating as I’d like. But it’s a new year and time for new challenges. Luckily, there are so many great designers in this region who know the trends for 2021. I’m just going to follow their lead. – Katie Bianco, editor
