Washington Nationals to celebrate National Voter Registration Day, Fan Appreciation Day

As the team closes out the season, the Nats will be celebrating the fans and encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election.

By Michele Kettner September 22, 2020 at 2:20 pm

After a crazy start to the season, the Washington Nationals’ 2020 season is coming to a close. Although the Nats are unlikely to return to the playoffs and defend their title, the team has some final events in place to show their appreciation towards the fans.

National Voter Registration Day

To honor National Voter Registration Day (Sept. 22), the Nationals have launched a new resource page where fans can register to vote, find voter information and volunteer information in DC, Maryland and Virginia.

The team will also be honoring When We All Vote, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that looks to increase voter participation and close the age voting gap, during the pregame ceremonies against the Philadelphia Phillies. Nationals Park will be serving as Super Center voting location in the upcoming election.

Fan Appreciation Day

As the Nationals close out their series against the Phillies and welcome the New York Mets for a four-game homestand, the organization will be celebrating the fans. Even though fans were barred from celebrating the 2019 World Series champions at Nationals Park due to COVID-19, they will still be honored during a five-day celebration.

Over the next five games, the team will be honoring the Jr. Nats Kids Club (Sept. 23), Youth Baseball Academy (Sept. 25) and Nats Plus Members (Sept. 24, 26 and 27) with special in-game videos. This includes pre-recorded videos of First Pitch and Play Ball! from members of the respective groups. Throughout the game there will also be several videos played in the park and on the Nationals social channels thanking the players for bringing baseball back during this crazy year.

After the final game of the season, the Nationals will hold their annual Jerseys Off Their Backs auction. Fans will be able to bid on game-worn jerseys, with the proceeds from the auction going towards Nationals Philanthropies.

Washington Nationals Philanthropies Fundraisers

In lieu of the annual Homecoming Gala, Nationals Philanthropies is holding its Fall Ball fundraiser. This virtual event features a sweepstakes for a chance to win a ball signed by the players on the 2019 World Series Champion team and an online auction featuring a World Series ring, 2019 team signed jersey and other championship items, memorabilia and game-day experiences. The auction is open for bidding through Wednesday, Sept. 23. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Youth Baseball Academy and deliver community impact grants.

Also, the World Series Ring Sweepstakes is still open for entries through Oct. 3. Fans can enter their name in the giveaway by purchasing a ticket for $25.
