From lobster to dim sum: What We’re Looking Forward To This Week, Sept. 14-20

This week the Northern Virginia Magazine editorial team is looking forward to finding a new yoga mat, feasting on lobster and dining out at a new dim sum restaurant.

Breath in, breathe out
If the pandemic and concurring lockdown have taught me anything, it is that personal care should be a top priority. During the first few weeks of being stuck at home I was full of anxiety and stress every night as I watched the news. After nights of unrest, I decided to start practicing yoga and meditating nightly to help clear my mind. Now, almost six months later, my old, trusty yoga mat has finally worn out. As I look for a new mat, that will hopefully stop my hands from slipping, I will be using the roundup of yoga mats I put together last month to help guide my search. With express shipping, I’ll be back to meditating in no time.  – Michele Kettner, editorial assistant

Rolling with the homies
I’m originally from the Connecticut coast. It’s not Maine, but it still meant that I ate an obscene amount of lobster growing up. But guess what? I have to eat so many other things, lobster rolls aren’t usually on my to-do list as they were practically every day when I was a kid. Time to change that. Ford’s Fish Shack owner Tony Stafford has created orderfreshmainelobsters.com, which will deliver everything I need to make his lobster rolls right to my door. Time to feast!  – Alice Levitt, Food Editor/Critic

A return to dim sum
There are so many things that we took for granted pre-pandemic that may never make a return (Say goodbye to the handshake and hello to the elbow bump). Much ink has been spilled on saying goodbye to the buffet, and I thought that would include all things dim sum. I love dim sum so much that it’s often my request for my birthday meal. But with all the shared plates and push carts, I was certain we wouldn’t see its return for some time. So, I was delighted to see that Han Palace just opened in Tysons with an all-day dim sum. My birthday happens to be in September, so you can guess where I’ll be requesting to dine. – Katie Bianco, editor
