Summer is synonymous with swimming. And, with COVID-19 forcing the closure of many public pools throughout the region, swimming is something many have been missing this season.
For residents of Fairfax County—especially parents looking to make sure their kids’ swimming skills don’t get rusty—the return of swim lessons is one reason to celebrate. The Fairfax County Park Authority recently announced it will offer its Learn to Swim classes with a shortened schedule, beginning Saturday, Aug. 1.
Residents can sign up for lessons at Lee District, Oak Marr and Spring Hill RECenters on Saturdays throughout the month. New safety precautions will be in place, including smaller class sizes, fewer class offerings and classes that allow for social distancing. Swim instructors will wear personal protective equipment during classes. Learn to Swim classes are available for children 6 months to 12 years old.
As Virginia enters phase three of its reopening plan, a number of public pools around the region have reopened as well. Swimmers should check with their local pool or county parks and recreation authority for more information.
