3 local produce stands worth visiting this harvest season

If you’re struggling to find your favorite seasonal fruits and veggies at the grocery store, it’s time to visit these local spots.

With limited trips to the grocery store and many local produce box memberships sold out, you might be wondering about the next best way to get farm-fresh fruits and veggies this summer. Aside from swinging through curbside pickup at your nearby farmers markets, here are a few other outposts offering everything from crisp lettuce to ruby-red strawberries.

Brossman’s Family Farm

Your grocery list of local produce doesn’t just include the fresh-from-the-vine tomatoes or bountiful berries, of course, it also requires pantry staples like jams, jellies and local honey too. At Brossman’s Family Farm, you’ll find spring onions, asparagus and strawberries to stock your fridge, but also other family favorites, including apple butter, canned peaches and house-made mustards. And if you’re still looking to check a few additional items off of your list, grab a tub of ice cream and a dozen freshly laid eggs, and sneak an additional sweet-treat dessert. But move fast: Once items leave the shelves, they’re gone until the next batch or harvest. // Brossman’s Family Farm: 14740 James Monroe Highway, Leesburg

Nall’s Produce

Whether you stop by the store and practice social distancing or place your order over the phone, you’re going to want to fill your basket with the fruits and vegetables at Nall’s Produce, and maybe some other local products too! Call ahead to find out the farm’s daily stock of heirloom tomatoes, corn on the cob and more. Plus, the store stocks up on other small-brand items such as South Mountain Creamery dairy products from Maryland, Natalie’s Juice Company products from Florida and even South Carolina peaches, meaning you can find just about anything you need to make weekly meals, and bolster local businesses who love your support. // Nall’s Produce: 7310 Beulah St., Alexandria

Potomac Vegetable Farms

It’s hard not to love a local produce stand. Baskets full of bright-green zucchini and bundles of carrots abound. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to make it into the community supported agriculture (CSA) membership at Potomac Vegetable Farms this year, don’t fret! You can still stop by one of the farm’s produce stands, with locations in Purcellville and Vienna, for your daily produce fix. Be sure to check the farm’s Facebook page for updates on business hours, as well as rotating stock. The Purcellville outpost opened on May 30, and the Vienna location will open June 30. Try to contain your excitement: You may just find beets, leeks and more at the roadside stores. // 38369 John Wolford Road, Purcellville; Leesburg Pike (Route 7), Vienna
