10 virtual cooking classes and wine tastings for foodies stuck at home

Whether you want to try out new recipes or taste some of your favorite local wines, these events will keep you entertained from the safety of home.

With social distancing taking over the region the last two months, everyone has either had to find new ways to enjoy their favorite hobbies or step out of their comfort zone and try something new. Luckily, a lot of activities have been able to go virtual, including things foodies love. Continue your at-home entertainment with these 10 virtual cooking classes and wine tastings from across the DMV. 

Wine Wednesday Virtual Tasting – Locovino
Wednesday, May 27, 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Spend your Wednesday night with Big Cork Vineyards’ master winemaker, Dave Collins, for an evening at home. Enjoy a virtual tour of Locavino’s production room and a tasting of five wines from the vineyard, including a sauvignon blanc and petit verdot. Curbside pickup and online orders are available. // $23-$41

Between Two Barrels – Your Virtual Wine Tasting
Thursday, May 28, 4 p.m. & Thursday, June 4, 4 p.m.
Clock out of work early and enjoy a wine tasting with Greenhill Winery & Vineyards. Each tasting kit includes three vintages of Ontology, made out of 100% Virginia chambourcin. Pickup and local delivery options are available. // $30

Gather ‘Round the Farm Table: Reservation Round Up
Thursday, May 28, 6-7 p.m.
Join farmers Jake and Kate Zurshmeide for a tasting and discussion. The two will share their phase one reopening plans for Bluemont Vineyard and other updates regarding Great Country Farms as you sip on the vineyard’s 2017 Ascent Red.  // $40

French Country Cooking Class
Friday, May 29, 6 p.m.
Learn how to make some delicious French cuisine while staying at home. The menu for the night includes salad nicoise and parfaits of toasted pound cake with mixed berry compote. A Zoom link, grocery list and instructions will be sent prior to the class time. // $25

Virtual Tasting: Madeleine’s Chad and Nebbiolo
Friday, May 29, 7-7:30 p.m.
Celebrate the official release of Breaux Vineyards’ 2019 Madeleine’s Chardonnay. The new release will be paired with the vineyard’s 2015 Nebbiolo in a two-pack, which is available online. Prizes and discounts will also be given away throughout the tasting. // $77 per two-pack

Online Cooking Class: Soups of Multiple Continents
Sunday, May 31, 1-2:30 p.m.
Travel around the world (from your kitchen) with these delicious international soups. This class will go over soup recipes from four different continents as you learn different techniques and preparations from around the world. // $20

Pasta 101
Monday, June 1, 6 p.m.
Get your kids in on the cooking fun with this family-friendly cooking class. Gather everyone in the kitchen for a lesson on how to make pasta from scratch. Classes are available with and without groceries. // $10-$27.50

Virtual Vino: The Virtual Wine Tasting Party
Thursday, June 4, 5:30-7 p.m.
Join Forever Farm & Vineyard winemaker Bob Riggs for your own personal wine tasting. Each ticket serves two people and includes six pours, two tasting glasses and a bottle of wine of your choosing. The vineyard will donate $25 from every ticket purchase to The Leukemia Lymphoma Society. // $105

Virtual Wine Tasting
Friday, June 5, 6-7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the full wine tasting experience from your own kitchen. The at-home tasting menu includes the 2019 Kim Crawford Rose, 2018 Simi Chardonnay and 2016 Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon. Each tasting will be paired with delicious hors d’oeuvres from Brx American Bistro. // $100

Fresh Flavors of Mexico
Friday, June 5, 8:30 p.m.
Spice up Taco Tuesday with this gourmet Mexican meal. Participants will learn how to cook three authentic recipes, including fish tacos with homemade mango salsa, avocado-cilantro sauce and mango margaritas to top off your meal. // $29
