Northern Virginia history buffs and military aficionados were looking forward to June 4, the original scheduled open date for the National Museum of the United States Army.

Located in Fort Belvoir, the museum announced it will delay its public opening in response to the coronavirus crisis, and the project has been impacted by the suspension of some of the museum exhibit’s finishing work.

A new opening date has not yet been set, but the National Museum of the United States Army will “open when conditions can ensure the health and safety of museum visitors and staff, and the museum is ready to begin daily operations,” per a recent press release sent by the museum.

Once completed, the 185,000-square-foot museum will include free admission to the public, though tickets will have to be requested through an online reservation system. More details will be released once the Army declares the museum is ready to open.
