A hotel celebrating female empowerment is coming to the District in 2020

Located in Logan Circle, Hotel Zena will be a cultural hub honoring femininity through eccentric artwork, tributes to the capital’s women leaders and a lounge dedicated to community engagement.

Washington, DC is a hot spot for visitors, and while there are numerous historic hotels for tourists to choose from, there are very few that curate their own message on social reform as a selling point.

Come spring 2020 though, Logan Circle will be home to Hotel Zena, an art-infused hotel celebrating all things women, representing itself as a haven for “the liberated forward thinker,” according to a recent press release.

“Hotel Zena will be the first hospitality establishment solely dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of women,” said Jon Bortz, president and CEO of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, in the press release. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust acquired the space, formerly known as the Donovan Hotel, in 2018. “Washington, DC is one of the most culturally diverse metropolitans with a female-majority population, and there is no better place or more relevant time to fill this void in the travel market.”

Hotel Zena is part of The Viceroy Urban Retreats portfolio—a collection of high-style boutique hotels featuring edgy, modern day aesthetics—and is the seventh ‘Z’ in Pebblebrook’s unofficial ‘Z’ collection, consisting of Hotel Zetta, Hotel Zelos and Hotel Zeppelin (all located in San Francisco).

The interior design of the space, curated by Dawson Design Associates, is meant to reflect the overall mission of Hotel Zena: To curate an atmosphere of strength and femininity. Within the hotel, there are several art installations meant to evoke conversation, such as a mural of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and a 50-foot pyrometric serpent hanging from the ceiling.

The 191-room hotel also features a vibrant cocktail bar within a lobby lounge, a 14th-floor rooftop pool and a destination lounge that will serve as a hub for community engagement like performances from local artists, lecture series and more.

A second Viceroy property will open in Washington, DC later in the year following Hotel Zena’s spring opening. // Hotel Zena: 1155 14th St., Washington, DC
