Although Halloween is yet to come, we already have another holiday on the brain: Christmas. And what better way to kick off the holiday season than at the National Christmas Tree lighting?

Tickets for the event, presented by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, are awarded through an online lottery, which opens at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and closes at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. To enter, visit recreation.gov. and click “Ticket Lottery.”

There is no charge for entering the lottery, and tickets are free but limited to five people per household. All attendees, regardless of age, are required to have a ticket at the lighting ceremony. Only one application is allowed per household for the lottery.

The official lighting will feature musical performances, the annual display of ornaments from every state and territory in the nation and more, all in front of the White House at President’s Park. This year marks the 97th of the DC tradition.

After the lighting ceremony event, guests may view the National Christmas Tree throughout the month of December, as well as the 56 surrounding trees honoring the states, territories and District of Columbia.

Lottery winners will be notified on Monday, Nov. 4. For more information, visit thenationaltree.org. // President’s Park: 1450 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC
