Fans of chickpeas, olive oil and fresh fish unite! Mediterranean ingredients and their associated health benefits will take center stage at the Mediterranean Diet Roundtable (MDR) on June 27.

The one-day conference, being held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Training Center, will feature panels and presentations from a variety of professionals in the health, education and food industries, including an experimental lunch where guests will have an educational tasting on Mediterranean flavors and products.

Topics at the 2019 conference include research on the global challenges of adaptation towards plant-based diets, challenges of progress in school food for children, as well as the re-framing and adaptation of the Mediterranean diet based on current food trends and future generations.

The conference began in 2015 after the proposed 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines from the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (which works in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services), recommended a Mediterranean-style diet as a healthy eating plan for Americans as it contains more fruits and seafood, as well as less dairy, than the average American palate.

The event is a signature program by Accent PR, a public relations company based in Boston that has clients nationwide.

MDR will also host a Mediterranean Gala the night prior to the conference (June 26) that will feature live music and Mediterranean-style dishes for guests to enjoy. Gala tickets must be purchased separately.
