Arlington’s Washington-Lee renamed Washington-Liberty; Harpsichord replica returns to Mount Vernon

Following a unanimous vote by the Arlington County School Board Thursday night, Washington-Lee High School has been renamed Washington-Liberty High School. The decision to rename the school was based on removing association with Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

A piece of Mount Vernon history is returning to the site, as a replica of the 18th-century harpsichord that George Washington purchased in 1793 has been added to the mansion’s little parlor. The new harpsichord replaces the original that previously was on-site, but unlike the original, can now be played for guests to hear.

The Prince William County Police Department is seeking assistance in the search for missing teen Karissa “Kris” Banker. The 16-year-old was last seen Thursday afternoon at her family’s home in the 15400 block of Admiral Baker Circle in Haymarket. Police ask anyone with information to contact them.
