Another delay for Silver Line expansion; Prince William County eyes ferry to help commuters

After discovering that hundreds of concrete rails installed at track crossovers along the second phase of the Silver Line are flawed in September, Capital Rail Constructors say that the project—already 13 months behind schedule—could be delayed further.

Prince William County is considering adding a passenger ferry option that would be able to take commuters from Woodbridge into D.C. Federal grant money has been secured to improve the Occoquan Harbour Marina, where the estimated 45-minute ferry ride would originate.

Metro Board Chairman Jack Evans and board member Corbett Price are expected to use their jurisdictional veto power on Metro’s plan to keep the early closing hours through 2020 and instead want to reinstitute 3 a.m. closings for the first time in three years. Evans hopes this will help bring riders back to Metro.

The Fairfax County Police Department is celebrating 30 years of its Santa’s Ride program. The program was started by former Fairfax County Police Officer Buddy Sekely and hands out presents to children at local Fairfax hospitals.

A coalition is forming in an effort to revive the idea of creating a gondola service connecting Rosslyn and Georgetown. The coalition will help develop plans for an aerial gondola that would connect Georgetown to the Rosslyn Metro. The plan was originally brought up about five years ago, but Arlington ultimately decided against it in 2017.
