Former Fairfax deputy charged with sexual assault; Prince William County discusses changes to bus routes

Former Fairfax County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Washington of Stafford has been charged with sexually assaulting a jail inmate. A former inmate said that she was assaulted by Washington in December 2016 or January 2017. Washington has been charged with one count of carnal knowledge of an inmate and one count of sexual battery.

Changes to the local and commuter buses in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park will be discussed at a public hearing on Wednesday. Among the proposals are a new rush-hour only OmniRide Express commuter bus route between Haymarket and Rosslyn, and an overhaul of Manassas-area local bus service.

A Fredericksburg detective is investigating a pair of incidents of alleged fraud, where two residents lost large sums of money to people pretending to be IRS agents. According to court documents, the two victims lost a combined total of just under $15,000.

For the second time, Fairfax County Planning Commission has delayed a decision on the 1.8 million-square-foot mixed-use Midline project. The project, developed by JBG Smith, EYA and Chevy Chase Land Co., would create a 17.5-acre development east of Wiehle Avenue and south of Sunset Hills Road. A decision has been deferred to Nov. 1.

The Loudoun Freedom Center has announced the creation of a new “freedom trail,” which will feature six historic markers that focus on African-American history in Lansdowne, as well as road signs that will lead to an African-American burial ground for the enslaved in Belmont.
