Uber awards Virginia almost $3M following data breach settlement; President Trump looking to Arlington for 2020 campaign headquarters

In November 2016, hackers collected information from Uber drivers nationwide, including 19,335 in Virginia. Uber paid the hackers’ ransom and assured that all information was deleted, but did not come forward with this information until one year later, in November 2017. In a national settlement, Uber was forced to cough up $148 million to the states whose drivers had their information compromised, Virginia winning $2,956,512.59.

Tuesday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved Reston Town Center West’s proposed 1.4 million-square-foot addition, which will add 576 multifamily units, office space spanning 700,000 square feet and retail space as well.

Wednesday, Woodbridge resident Ronald Hamilton was found guilty of capital murder for fatally shooting his wife, Crystal Hamilton, and Ashley Guindon, a responding Prince William police officer on her first day of work, on Feb. 27, 2016. A jury will soon decide if Hamilton will get the death penalty.

A man wanted for rape in Arlington County has barricaded himself inside his home in the 3300 block of Mt. Pleasant Street NW in D.C. Nearby roads are closed and the police are instructing neighborhood residents to stay inside their homes.
