Cyclist who flipped off President Trump running for Loudoun County office; Amazon’s founder, board plan dinner at Renwick Gallery

The 51-year-old marketing executive who flipped off President Trump in 2017, Juli Briskman, is running against Republican Suzanne M. Volpe for a position representing the Algonkian District on the 2019 Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

Though the company has yet to comment on the location of its second headquarters, people are speculating that the chosen location could be in or near Washington, D.C., as Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, and the board of directors booked dinner in the Renwick Gallery.

All lanes of the Arlington Memorial Bridge were supposed to close for construction this weekend, but with Hurricane Florence on its way, the National Park Service has delayed its closure. The bridge will now be closed from 7 p.m. on Sept. 21 to 5 a.m. on Sept. 24.

On Sept. 20, Fairfax County officials will hold a meeting at South Lakes High School from 7-9 p.m. to discuss the county’s Community-Wide Housing Strategic Plan, which aims to make living in the area more affordable.

Stafford County Public Schools has been using ArchiveSocial, a social media scanning software that detects keywords that could indicate threats being made to the school, on its pages (not on its employees’ or students’ pages) for the past three months.

The Parent-Teacher Association at Glebe Elementary School thought that it lost around $80,000, which it raised at its spring auction, because the company they used to collect the funds, Student Info Hub, was slow to transfer the funds. The PTA and Student Info Hub were able to resolve their dispute and the money has been recovered.
