Starting Sept. 1, Alexandria switches to ParkMobile app; Dulles and Reagan National safety and security reports ignored

Thursday, Alexandria officials announced that on Sept. 1, if someone wants to pay for parking on their smartphone, they must now do so through the ParkMobile app, paying $1.75 per hour plus a 45 cent convenience fee.

A report written by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority‘s (MWAA) safety expert identified issues with an outdated computer aided dispatch system, mobile license plate readers and a lacking video analytics system at Dulles and Reagan National airports. The report was seen by the MWAA in 2017 and 2018, and though not making changes could put travelers, airport employees and homeland security at risk, none were made.

A man from Woodbridge was pinned between two vehicles and killed on the Prince William Parkway on Wednesday. The 53-year-old got out of his truck, approached a sedan due to a road rage related argument and got stuck between the sedan and a minivan as the sedan was changing lanes while the man was moving toward it.

Construction that will add three southbound lanes to the part of I-95 over the Rappahannock River near Fredericksburg kicked off this week and should conclude by the summer of 2020.

U.S. 1 from the Fairfax County line to Cardinal Drive will be widened to six lanes following the Prince William Board of County Supervisors‘s recent project approval.
