Corey Stewart says ‘New York Times’ reporter broke into former staffer’s apartment; Flesh-eating Vibrio bacteria kills Virginia resident

Thursday, Corey Stewart’s campaign office released a statement saying that a reporter for the The New York Times, Stephanie Saul, broke into former campaign staffer Brain Landrum’s Woodbridge apartment “in search of a story.” The New York Times has said that the claim is “entirely false.”

A Virginia resident, personal details of which have not been released, has died after contracting the rare flesh-eating bacteria Vibrio vulnificus, which is common in brackish water off the Gulf Coast and infects individuals via open cuts and wounds.

The commonwealth’s Attorney General Mark Herring said on Thursday that he will not appeal a federal ruling concerning 11 House of Delegates districts that individuals believe were strategically drawn to discriminate against African American voters. Herring also asked that should Republican leaders make an appeal, the federal courts disregard it.

On June 12, the Leesburg Town Council rejected Meadowbrook’s rezoning request, which would bring retail shops, a 24-hour gas station and drive-thru eateries to a stretch of 24 acres that are currently residential. As a result, Meadowbrook filed a lawsuit against the council on July 11 claiming that they dismissed the request on “impermissible grounds.”
