Gov. Ralph Northam looking to make Virginia offshore wind energy hub; Arlington roads and parking garages flooded

Per a Tuesday announcement made by Gov. Ralph Northam’s office, the Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy is investigating how to make the commonwealth the east coast’s go-to source for offshore wind energy.

A flood warning that lasted until 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night was issued for most of Northern Virginia. Arlington saw flooded roadways and parking garages. The garage near the Ballston Mall was especially filled with water.

Transgender teenager Gavin Grimm fought for his right to use the boy’s bathroom at Gloucester High School, and after being told that he was not permitted to do so, sued the Gloucester County School Board. Tuesday, a Virginia federal judge ruled in Grimm’s favor saying that his constitutional rights were violated.

Following the accidental death of a 9-year-old boy who suffered traumatic head injuries after being caught between a wall and motorized partition, Fairfax County Public Schools has put a halt to all partition use until further notice.

Arlington Public Library is asking residents to weigh in on what services they can and cannot do without ahead of budget cuts. Those interested are asked to complete an online survey by June 8.

A female Woodbridge resident and medical assistant at Inova Bariatric Surgery stole blank oxycodone prescriptions, forged them using an Inova doctor’s name and then sold the prescriptions. More than 90 fraudulent prescriptions were filled and 6,520 oxycodone pills distributed.

Last week, a sinkhole was spotted on the White House lawn near the press briefing room and press secretary’s office. Since its initial sighting, the sinkhole has grown and another one has appeared next to it.
