At the Spa

Tell your therapist your concerns and ask them how they recommend addressing the issue (pain, skin care, etc.) –Jenny Stafford, director at Spa Minérale at Lansdowne Resort

To get the most out of your massage, communicate well with your therapist. We don’t read minds. We don’t know you, what you like, how much pressure you can stand. Our definition of mid to deep is different with yours. You need to be actively communicating with your therapist during your treatment. And be hydrated. Dehydration is the number one reason people are sore after a massage. –Jennifer Ferdinand of Serendipity Wellness Studio

No shaving same day. We don’t care about a little leg fuzz, we care about the health of your skin. –Stafford

Discontinue one week before treatments and tell your facial tech about any products that you are using that contain retinol, AHA’s like glycolic or salicylic acid. –Stafford

Have questions about what you’re using? Bring in the product with the packaging. –Ferdinand

Don’t come with makeup on. –Ferdinand

If you have a particular skin issue, keeping a food diary and tracking what your skin is doing is beneficial. You can start to see patterns. –Ferdinand

At the Med Spa

For laser hair removal, you need to shave everything that you want off. Do not come in with the hair. It is more time consuming for the technician. –Andrea Natasha of The SkinBarre

For microblading and microneedling, a week prior you should not have any alcohol or aspirin—anything that would thin blood—makes it more difficult and retention of pigment. –Natasha

For microneedling, peels and HIFU, the products that you will be using at home need to be purchased beforehand or the day of your appointment so you go home with what you will be using. If you go home and use over-the-counter products you are going against the process. Products needed will be gone over during the consultation. –Natasha

No coffee before an appointment. It makes people jittery, especially with microblading and microneedling –Natasha

Spicy food tends to flare up skin –Natasha
