Where to wash down tacos with margaritas on Cinco de Mayo

Sample tequila, enjoy Mexican cuisine, learn to salsa and watch Chihuahuas race at these Cinco de Mayo celebrations around Northern Virginia.

Taste of Cinco de Mayo at Durant Arts Center
May 4, 6-9 p.m.
First Friday at the Durant Arts Center will be a showcase of Mexican food, music and dance. Local restaurants El Tipico, El Paso, Los Tios Grill, Los Toltecos, San Antonio and Taqueria Poblano will offer authentic fare to kick off the evening, the Mobile Art Lab will host interactive activities and the Los Quetzales Mexican Dance Ensemble will perform. Sangria Chef’s Table at Wildfire
May 4, 6:30 p.m.
Wildfire’s Chef’s Table this weekend will feature four courses of Mexican-inspired dishes like crispy street corn fritters and carne asada tacos, each paired with a fresh sangria. // Wildfire: 2001 International Drive, McLean 

Cinco de Mayo at bartaco
May 5, 11 a.m.
This coastal-inspired taco shop will have live music from local bands and activities for kids throughout the day, in addition to their menu of tacos, guacamole and tequila cocktails. // bartaco: Multiple locations

Mexican Dark Lager Release Party at Port City Brewing Co.
May 5, Noon-9 p.m.
Port City is releasing their Mexican Dark Lager, Oscura, which is inspired by Mexico’s brown and amber lagers, and will present it at their celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Rocklands food truck will be on-site, as will outdoor games like cornhole, giant yard pong and giant jenga. // Port City Brewing Co.: 3950 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria 

Cinco de Mayo Block Party at Parrando’s Tex-Mex Grill
May 5, Noon.-12 a.m.
Parrando’s second annual block party boasts live music by Mambo Tropical and DJ Romin. There will also be beer, margaritas, sangria, tequila shots and grilled street tacos outside. The full menu is available inside. // Parrando’s Tex-Mex Grill: 42830 Creek View Plaza, Suite 100, Ashburn

Cinco de Mayo at Don Tito
May 5, Noon-2 a.m.

Cinco de Mayo at Adventure Brewing Co.
May 5, 1-7 p.m.
This Fredericksburg brewery is teaming up with Martina’s Cantina so guests can pair tacos with drinks specials like a mojito lager and a margarita beer infusion. // Adventure Brewing North: 33 Perchwood Drive, Unit 101, Fredericksburg

Cinco de Drinko at Brew Republic Bierwerks
May 5, 2-7 p.m.
Brew Republic’s fiesta will feature glasses of Abide Blonde Ale starting at $1 at 2 p.m. and increasing by $1 per hour until it’s back to regular price. There will also be micheladas, horchatas, Mexican fare, party games and a limited release of the spicy Guerrilla. Heat seekers can sample “smokin’ hot” and “nuclear” pepper-infused versions of the Abide ale. Live music will start at 8 p.m. // Brew Republic Bierwerks: 15201 Potomac Town Place, #120, Woodbridge  

BlackFINN Fiesta at Blackfinn Ashburn
May 5, 3-9 p.m.
Chihuahuas are the star of the show at Blackfinn’s Cinco de Mayo celebration as the tiny dogs will race at 6 p.m. for a chance to win a grand prize. The event will also feature $3 tacos, frozen margaritas, a nacho bar and a guacamole station. // Loudoun Station: 43751 Central Station Drive, Ashburn

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Mariachis Tequileria & Restaurant
May 5, 3 p.m.-2 a.m.
Guests can dance in the streets with DJ Chavo at the third annual Cinco de Mayo party at Mariachis. There will also be bull rides, a mariachi band, Mexican ballet, food and plenty of tropical drinks available at the outdoor bars. // Mariachis Tequileria & Restaurant: 9428 Battle St., Manassas 

Cinco de Mayo at the Fredericksburg Area Museum
May 5, 4:30-9 p.m.
Learn to salsa with Strictly Ballroom and then show off your skills at the celebration with live music from Rafael Ortiz y El Tumbao Urbano. Beginner lessons are at 4:30 p.m. and the fiesta starts at 6 p.m. Food will be available for purchase along with tequila tastings and margaritas. // Fredericksburg Area Museum: 907 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg 

Cinco de Derby at Fairfax Corner
May 5, 5-8 p.m.
Fairfax Corner is hosting a mashup of Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, with margaritas, mint juleps, sombreros, bow ties, churros and horse racing.  The race will be shown on the big screen and there will be a themed photo booth and live DJ as well. Prizes will be awarded to those donning the best fiesta or Derby attire. // Fairfax Corner Plaza: 11900 Palace Way, Fairfax
