Mean Girls: Post-Hollywood, Pre-Broadway
Mean Girls—clearly one of a handful of iconic films from the 21st century. When else could you see peak Lindsay Lohan, pre-peak Rachel McAdams and the great Tim Meadows all in one film? In looking for a clip to share, I was actually disappointed that I couldn’t find my No. 1 favorite quote from the film, delivered by Meadows and totally applicable to every moment IRL when someone is just droning on: “You know, you’re not really required to make a speech.” Instead, I’ve included my No. 2 favorite quote. (Please excuse the grainy film quality.) This Saturday, I’m headed to The National Theatre for the Broadway preview and psyched to witness how Tina Fey, husband Jeff Richmond (music), Legally Blonde’s Nell Benjamin (lyrics) and The Book of Mormon’s Casey Nicholaw (director) transform this practically flawless film into a live musical. Hitting the big screen, shopping and navigating unchartered waters
I’m starting off this week a little backwards. Tonight I’m catching a showing of Thor Ragnarok. Then Tuesday I’m headed into D.C. to get a glimpse of what Trunk Club will be rolling out for the holiday season (check our Style section later this week to get in on the goods). As I wrap up the week I hope to get a little ahead of Thanksgiving. My husband has big plans of testing out smoking a turkey but, as I am vegetarian, I’ve got to find my own sumptuous dishes to fill up on. I’ll be treading into waters one doesn’t find me in that often: the kitchen, cooking. Any fantastic, yet easy, recipe suggestions would be appreciated: [email protected]. Olio nuovo

“You know olive oils have their own beaujolais nouveau?” is what Luanne Savino O’Loughlin said to me as I was just about to walk out of Olio2go. I did know, but haven’t bought a bottle of the season’s first pressing in a few years. The Merrifield store should receive their first shipment of olio nuovo on Tuesday. Final chance for fall festivals and hay rides
As usual, I seem to be behind on one of the biggest happenings in the area … Cox Farms’ Fall Festival. Seeing as its final day is tomorrow, which is also Election Day, I might be pretty busy. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this gathering, which boasts (large) slides, rope swings, farm animals, a corn maze and an interactive hay ride. Going with the flow
Having spent close to nine hours in my car this past weekend, I am very much looking forward to not having any official plans this week. While I’m not opposed to one of my friends coming to visit, I do not foresee any sort of distant venturing in my near future. Perhaps I’ll treat myself to a class at Pure Barre in Reston, or maybe I’ll just veg out in my PJ’s and do some cooking. –RK
