‘Get Out’ By Autumn Echols, Illustrated by Dodot Asmoro

Playing games is in childrens’ blood. Autumn Echols has given children a book to embrace tagging, tackling, pushing and nudging all in the name of fun with her book “Get Out,” which explains 30 outdoor games that can be played with simple items almost every household has and a bit of imagination. Written with children in mind, Echols gives the reader basic instructions and rules of the game, and she also offers tips and ideas of alternatives to play.  Offering new takes on old classics—dodgeball, whack-a-mole and ultimate Frisbee—she also sneaks in some learning: Shapes of Sure Doom gets kids playing around with geometry.  (August 2015)

ONLINEhumfree‘HumFree the Bee Has a Food Allergy’ By Alison Johansen, Illustrated by Brian Talbott

HumFree the Bee was inspired by Alison Johansen’s son, who like any young boy loves to run and play, but like many children these days suffers from allergies. The tale of HumFree follows an energetic young bee that finds he is allergic to the pollen of yellow and blue flowers. Instead of focusing on the things the bee can’t do and being excluded from bee activities, with the help of friends, he learns to explore his environment and have fun while simply avoiding what can harm him, a lesson Johansen hopes to pass along to young allergy sufferers.  (September 2015)
