Catch a Pop-Up Fitness Event This Fall

Mix up your workout routine with Zumba in the park or a yoga session at a brewery.

By Maggie Roth October 11, 2023 at 9:16 am

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to your workout routine, and specialized fitness classes like Zumba, Pilates, and yoga can get pretty pricey, making it difficult to try out new things. Luckily, there are plenty of pop-up fitness events happening around NoVA — many of which are free or less expensive than a class at a studio — that let you get your heart pumping without too much commitment. Check out these fitness events happening this month.

Reston Fitness Crawl

October 15, 9–11 a.m.

Get a well-rounded workout and test out a few different fitness styles with this fitness event. It starts with a 20-minute shadow boxing session with Rumble Boxing, followed by strength and condition training with Reston Orange Theory Fitness. To finish, there will be restorative yoga led by instructor Jhanel Marchand. After the workout, enjoy snacks, refreshments, and a raffle. The St. James Performance Club: 11951 Freedom Dr., Reston, free

Fitness on the Plaza

Thursdays through October 26, 7–8 p.m.

Every Thursday until October 26, free Zumba classes are on the plaza at One Loudoun. The classes will be led by The Fitness Equation, and participants will get to dance along to today’s hits. It’s an active, high-energy workout style, and everyone is welcome to join in. 20365 Exchange St., Ste. 211, Ashburn, free

COR FIT’s Hybrid HIIT Fitness Class

October 29, 10:30 a.m.

As part of Mara Hair and Mode Studio’s Pink Wave Campaign to support the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, it will hold an HIIT session in-person and online. COR FIT will run the class, which consists of body-weight strength training that is suitable for beginners. Bring a yoga mat and a water bottle. 4011 Chain Bridge Rd., Fairfax, $25 in person, $15 via Zoom

The Boro Tysons

Dates and times vary

Head to the Boro for free fitness classes. Every Wednesday in October, there will be a mat Pilates session with Pilates Cabaret for a full-body toning workout in Boro Park. On the third Thursday of every month, Honest Soul Yoga hosts an indoor, classic power-flow yoga, and on the first Wednesday of every month, try the high-energy bootcamp-style classes with Outrun Gravity, both hosted in the Boro Station Fitness Center Studio. Registration is required for some of the classes. Boro Park: 8350 Broad St., Tysons; Boro Station Fitness Center Studio: 1775 Greensboro Station Pl., Tysons, free

Fitness at the Brewery

Dates vary, 10 a.m.

Join Aslin Beer Co. for a series of low-cost group workouts right at the brewery. Workout styles change week-by-week, so you can choose which is best for you or try your hand at something totally new. In Herndon, try yoga on October 14 and a class by The St. James on October 28. In Alexandria, there will be a class from E60 Fitness on October 14, kickboxing on October 15, Anytime Fitness on October 21, yoga on October 22, and PomSquad Fitness on October 28. You can cool down and socialize with a cold beer and a bite to eat from the brewery after the workouts. 767 Elden St., Hernon; 847 S. Pickett St., Alexandria, ticket prices vary by event, free–$25
