6 fitness events to join over Father’s Day weekend

Kick off the start of summer with outdoor races, yoga, and Zumba.

By Michele Kettner June 15, 2021 at 2:21 pm

With the summer solstice and Father’s Day falling this weekend, it’s the perfect time to head outside. If you’re looking to get in a quick workout before your weekend celebrations, consider one of these fitness events.

Fitness on the Plaza

Thursday, 7-8 p.m.
Skip the happy hour and go for an after-work Zumba class instead. Head to the One Loudoun plaza for an up-tempo outdoor workout led by The Fitness Equation. The weekly series will allow you to break a sweat while you learn some new dance moves. One Loudoun: 20626 Easthampton Plz., Ashburn; free

Water Yoga

Friday, 9:30 a.m.
Stay cool in the pool as you get in your morning workout. This water yoga class allows people to complete traditional yoga poses while limiting the strain on joints and injuries. Just bring a pool noodle, and you’re set. Middleburg Community Center: 300 W. Washington St., Middleburg; $20

2021 CASA Superhero 5k, 10k, & 1M

Saturday, 7:30-10 a.m.
Dust off your cape for this Saturday-morning run. Pick between the one-mile fun run, 5k, and 10k as a way to help the Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA DC). As you get in those steps, take in the nice summer weather and beautiful views of the lake. Lake Accotink: 7500 Accotink Park Rd., Springfield; $13-$45

Vinyasa – All Levels

Saturday, 9-10 a.m.
Before you head into the summer season, melt away that extra stress. This flow-based vinyasa class is open to yogis of all experience and will offer mantra, breathwork, and meditation as you adjust your body. West Trail Wellness and Massage: 190 N. 21st St., Purcellville; $20

Yoga in the Park

Saturday, 10-11 a.m.
Join Latitude Yoga Co. for an outdoor yoga experience. Set up in front of the Aquia Creek for an hour-long class that combines the healing powers of yoga and nature. Widewater State Park: 101 Widewater State Park Rd., Stafford; free

Nature Yoga: Summer Solstice Sun Salutes

Saturday, 6-7 p.m.
Celebrate the official start of summer by taking your workout outside. Take in the natural surroundings, and extra light, as you connect with the environment and other living beings and head into the world with a boosted sense of compassion. The Clifton Institute: 6712 Blantyre Rd., Warrenton; $10
