Take a Digital Detox at These Peaceful Spots

Ready for a little time away from your phone? Take a break at one of these NoVA-area destinations.

By Maggie Roth February 19, 2025 at 10:49 am

Feeling stressed out and overwhelmed from the recent news cycle? Looking to cut back on your screen time for a little while? It might be time for a digital detox. Whether you’re looking to take a full weekend away or just have a few hours, Northern Virginia has plenty of options. So plan a serene retreat and unwind sans screens.

Relax at SpaWorld

Chantilly’s SpaWorld features pools, saunas, and poultice rooms where you can relax and unwind without the distraction of your phone. Spend time in the water-massage bade pool to relax your muscles. Then try the Himalayan salt room or amethyst gem room to relax your mind. Massages, facials, and scrubs are also available. SpaWorld: 13830 Braddock Rd., Ste A-10, Centreville

Escape for a Weekend at the Hummingbirds Hideaway Treehouse

For a weekend away that’s truly off the grid, retreat to the trees. This treehouse in Waterford has two bedrooms with king beds, plus an open living space with serene views of the surrounding woods. It also has WiFi, kitchen appliances, and heating — so you don’t have to be too unplugged if you don’t want to. Waterford

Soak at the Omni Homestead’s Warm Springs Pools

Soak at the warm spring pools near The Omni Homestead Resort. Phones are discouraged, and visitors can experience the serenity of naturally warm waters. The pool stays around 99 degrees year-round. Make it a full getaway with a stay at the Omni, which also has a full spa and two golf courses. The Omni Homestead Resort: 7696 Sam Snead Hwy., Hot Springs

Retreat to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens

Looking for a place to reflect on your thoughts without distractions? Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a reliable place for just that. There’s a gazebo overlooking a pond full of koi fish, several gardens and trails, a Korean bell garden, and a bonsai pavilion. Walk the grounds or settle in one spot to clear your mind. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens: 9750 Meadowlark Gardens Ct., Vienna

Take a Crash-Course in Meditation with the Mindfulness Practice Center of Fairfax

It’s not always possible to take a full day or weekend away. If that’s the case, try a meditation or mindfulness workshop from this Fairfax practice. Online and in-person classes can help you be more conscious and mindful. Chapel of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax: 2709 Hunter Mill Rd., Oakton
