Favorite place to celebrate: The night after I won the Newbery Medal, my friends and I went to the Ice House Café in downtown Herndon for drinks and fried oysters.
Favorite place to connect with nature: On any given night in my backyard are deer and foxes. Otherwise, the walking paths in Reston are crazy inspiring.
Favorite place tourists don’t know about: I’m kind of afraid to mention it because then they’ll know about it, but the Windsor Spa in Old Town Alexandria is amazing. The massage and facials are incredible! (Ask for Touria.)
Favorite place for a day of fun: In my pool with my soon-to-be-fourth-grader daughter.
Favorite place for a night out on the town: Reclining at the Regal Cinemas Dulles Town Center with my wife.
Favorite place for a day of shopping: Definitely Tysons Galleria.
Favorite place to write: Well, it used to be Panera Bread on Elden Street in Herndon, but now it’s Trinity Café (they have the best grilled cheese and scones) in Leesburg with my writing group.
