It’s hard to believe that amusement park season is already upon us. With Kings Dominion set to reopen on March 21 and Busch Gardens Williamsburg switching over to its spring celebrations this weekend, it’s time to start planning your next trip. But, before you take a drive down I-95, make sure you know what’s new at both amusement parks.
Kings Dominion
Ater opening a new roller coaster called Rapterra last summer, the Doswell park is set to make a splash this season — literally. The biggest addition to this year’s attractions is the SPLASH! Water Parade. The water-themed entertainment will feature colorful floats, music, and performers, plus interactive water-spraying elements, giving guests a way to cool off from the summer heat. The parade will start this summer.
There will also be a new indoor performance when Pandemonium: A Cirque Extravaganza debuts at the Kings Dominion Theater. The production brings the park’s live entertainment to a new level with acrobatics and immersive visuals.
The park will also be celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary with its Star-Spangled Nights celebration, which will culminate with the ultimate fireworks display. Foodies will also be able to enjoy refreshed menus and new dining options, including Dogwoods Fries and Sharkey’s Eats.
For those already thinking about Halloween, Kings Dominion will bring back its family-friendly Tricks and Treats daytime event and frightening Halloween Haunt. More details and new attractions for both events will be announced later this year.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Verbolten – Forbidden Turn is the latest roller coaster coming to Busch Gardens. The indoor/outdoor multi-launch coaster will take you on a tour through Germany’s countryside. The once-whimsical land full of fairy tales has turned dark as the high-thrill-level ride takes you through the dark woods. No opening date has been announced, but it’s expected to open in the spring.
For those that like to drink around the world, plan a stop at the park’s new speakeasy, Bürgermeister’s Hideaway. Also located in the Germany section, this new experience has a rotating seasonal menu that will keep cocktail lovers coming back. On the menu now is a Mardi Gras punch, mitten martini, and espresso martini, along with seasonal refreshers and assorted beers.
Along with its rides, Busch Gardens is best known for its rotating festivals. Some of the park’s most popular events include Kids’ Weekends from March 21 to April 19, the Food & Wine Festival from April 23 to June 21, Howl-O-Scream from September 11 to November 1, and Christmas Town from November 13 to January 3, 2027.
