Amtrak has a new daily route called the Floridian coming in November. It will be a direct round-trip between Chicago and Miami, with one of its stops in Washington, DC.
The Floridian will make stops in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and the Florida cities of Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. Its first run will be Sunday, November 10.
It will run on a similar schedule to the Capitol Limited between Chicago and DC and the Silver Star between Miami and DC.
The new route combines the Capitol Limited and Silver Star lines and is temporary. It was created because one of the tunnels of the East River in New York will be closed for a rehabilitation project.
Those who take first class on the Floridian will have either a roomette or a private bedroom. The roomette offers two reclining seats that turn into beds. The bedroom, twice as big as the roomette, has an in-room restroom and shower.
Coach customers will have reclining seats with no middle seat. Meals in the dining car, which is complimentary for first-class passengers, will include French toast and omelets for breakfast; grilled cheese, burgers, or vegan chili for lunch; and flat-iron steak, salmon, or rigatoni Bolognese for dinner.
