Believe it or not, autumn is just around the corner. And with the cooling weather and pumpkin patches comes the stunning fall foliage. Even though the changing leaves in Northern Virginia look amazing, the fall foliage in West Virginia might have us beat.
The latest fall foliage forecast for West Virginia shows the leaves starting to change in some counties starting at the end of September.

The middle of the state, which includes cities like Elkins, Thomas, and Aurora, will be the first to see the fall colors emerge. As you travel either east and west through the state, the fall colors will start later into October.
Those looking to take a short day trip to Harpers Ferry and the most eastern parts of West Virginia to see the fall leaves should wait until mid- to late October to ensure you get to take in those beautiful fall views.
As the third most forested state, the red, orange, and yellow leaves of fall overwhelm the senses when you go leaf peeping. Luckily, there are plenty of fall activities that’ll give you a different view of the leaves this season. Whitewater rafting in the Gauley River, scenic train rides, and the West Virginia’s first railbiking tour are just a few ways to enjoy the new season.
