5 Summer Concerts We’re Already Excited For

May is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning out your schedule.

By Kate Oczypok April 11, 2022 at 10:43 am

There are only a few short weeks until summer 2022 kicks off. Now that things are getting a bit more back to normal, Northern Virginia concert venues are hosting a variety of acts. There’s lots of nostalgic performances, from a Beatles tribute band to Leigh Nash of the ‘90s band Sixpence None the Richer to Tim McGraw kicking off Memorial Day weekend. But there’s plenty of unique experiences too, from Broadway in the Park to Toy Story in Concert.

Tim McGraw: McGraw Tour 2022

Saturday, May 28, 7 p.m.
Kick off Memorial Day weekend and the official start of summer 2022 with Tim McGraw at Jiffy Lube Live. McGraw, who’s married to fellow country singer Faith Hill, will be performing hits from his 16 studio albums. Ten of those albums have reached number one on the Top Country Albums charts. Jiffy Lube Live: 7800 Cellar Door Dr., Bristow; tickets start at $29.50

Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer)

Thursday, June 9, 8 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)
She sang the song millennials grew up awkwardly swaying to at middle school dances. Leigh Nash of the band Sixpence None the Richer, who sang the iconic “Kiss Me,” will be at Jammin Java this summer. While Sixpence None the Richer broke up in 2004, Nash debuted a solo album in August 2006. Jammin Java: 227 Maple Ave. E., Vienna; $17-$20

Signature Theatre and Wolf Trap present Broadway In The Park

Friday, June 24, 8 p.m. (gates open at 6:30 p.m.)
There’s no business like show business, right? Spend one “enchanted evening” (okay, enough musical puns!) under the stars with Broadway stars and Signature Theatre actors and singers. The second annual night of show tunes and family fun promises to be a great time at Wolf Trap. Filene Center: 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna; tickets start at $30

Disney & Pixar and the National Symphony Orchestra’s Toy Story in Concert

Saturday, July 30, 8 p.m. (gates open at 6:30 p.m.)
Summer always brings a sense of nostalgia and this concert doesn’t disappoint. The National Symphony Orchestra will accompany the film projected in HD on screens in-house and on the lawn. The Oscar- and Grammy-winning score by Randy Newman promises “you’ve got a friend.” Filene Center: 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna; tickets start at $37.

1964: The Tribute

Saturday, August 6, 7:30 p.m.
This Beatles tribute band is one of the better ones to have come along over the years. The group focuses on a key moment in history—when the Beatles played before a live audience. Parents and grandparents will love reliving Beatlemania, and their children will enjoy discovering the magic of the Beatles. The Birchmere: 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria; $45
