Kings Dominion Will Reopen with the First “4D” Free-Spin Coaster in VA

A new jungle-themed area with a topsy-turvy roller coaster and signature restaurant will open to guests this spring.

Updated May 18, 2022. Adrenaline junkies are counting down the days until Memorial Day weekend, which always kicks off the start of amusement park season. And believe us, it will be worth the wait. Going into the 2022 season, Kings Dominion will be welcoming back guests with a variety of new attractions and experiences.

Announced in 2021, the park will be opening its 13th roller coaster, Tumbili, becoming the first 4D free-spin coaster in the state. This will be the park’s first roller coaster since Twister Timbers opened in 2018. It looks crazy and also nausea-inducing, basically salt-and-pepper shakers on a track.

The ride will start with a 90-degree vertical lift, suspending riders on both sides of the track as they climb 112 feet in the air before the tumbling begins. With state-of-the-art magnetic technology, the coaster will be able to control and induce spinning, giving riders a feeling of weightlessness while traveling down the track, topping speeds of 34 mph.

Tumbili will be located in the park’s upgraded Safari Village, Jungle X-Pedition. This area will also be completely transformed into a jungle experience for guests. Set as an exotic archeological dig site and research facility, the area will feature a new dining location and bar for its thrill-seekers.

“The guests will be able to enjoy all of the local favorites from the craft breweries that we have, as well as specialty drinks that will be served right from our new facility here,” said Scott Clemons, the director of marketing at Kings Dominion. The transformation will also include a new retail store and more attractions to be announced in the future.
