Fans of DC hardcore, rejoice! Punk the Capital is screening tonight in Adams Morgan at the Marie Reed Recreation Center’s soccer field, starting 30 minutes after sunset.
The retrospective is part of the “Made In DC” film series and kicks off the Adams Morgan Movie Nights returning this summer, running every Monday night through August 9. The first in the series explores the punk rock scene between 1976 and 1983, which started in the District and became one of the more influential music movements in the country.
Bring a blanket to camp on the grass, grab some dinner from a nearby restaurant and listen to the filmmakers discuss their work in a pre-show panel. It is advised to arrive early to snag a space on the field—as well as to get your hands on a free cookie from Insomnia Cookies. Do not bring alcohol, because it will not be allowed.
If tonight is not an option, the other movies in the series show on subsequent Mondays and include Wonder Woman 1984 (July 19), In the Line of Fire (July 26), Night At the Museum (August 2), and All the President’s Men (August 9). If there’s inclement weather on any of these dates, that movie will be shown on August 16. 18th and California Streets, NW.
